RSL Update

RSL (Rock School exam awarding body) update for music and performing arts students at Walsall Studio School.

As of the announcement yesterday that the school will be closing to most students from tomorrow we have been given an update from RSL. This is the awarding body that the school uses for all music courses and year 10/11 performing arts.

RSL statement dated 19th March as follows:

Following the government’s update on the 18th March 2020 that all schools will be closing from this Friday 20th March 2020, we wanted to provide a brief update for our centres.
While we await confirmation about whether the cancellation of exams also affects VQ assessment, if you are intending to run assessment today or on Friday then please go ahead, using your best judgement and school’s guidance to carry it out if it is safe to do so. You will not be penalised if you judge it best not to do so given the circumstances. We will be guided by Ofqual on any assessment, external or internal, planned for next week or later in the academic year.

As we will be closing on Friday there will not be enough time for our students to complete the externally set and assessed units for all of our RSL provision. We have filmed performances of our level 3 Subsidiary Diploma Music and we will film any of our year 11 performing arts students who are in tomorrow. However, please do not send students in for this if they are currently self-isolating, they will not be penalised for non-attendance. All the written work for our RSL external assessments must be completed at the school under exam conditions. This will mean that no students will be complete by the end of tomorrow. Please be rest assured that as in the above RSL statement, no students will be penalised for not completing this work and the school will keep getting daily updates on how the exam board will proceed and how the assessments will be completed and graded.

Learners will still have access materials and coursework via their GoogleDrive accounts.

Many thanks for your support in this and we will keep you updated.

Yours sincerely
